Refugee Ban Bill – urgent action needed

The Refugee Ban Bill

On Tuesday 7th March 2023, the Home Secretary introduced a new Bill called the “Illegal Migration Bill” – called by many the ‘Refugee Ban Bill’
The Bill puts a duty on the Home Secretary to arrange the removal of people who come to the UK without permission if they have not arrived directly from a country where their life and liberty is at risk. If they make an asylum claim, it will be declared “inadmissible” and there is no right to appeal.

This link give the views of the British Institute of Human Rights regarding this Bill and this link takes you to the National City of Sanctuary’s page on urgent action. Although the Bill has been approved by MPs it still has to go to the House of Lords and back to the Commons so there is time to take action now.
