Aid for Ukraine

With recent events, many of us are wondering what we can do to help the people of Ukraine. There are many suggestions in the media but we thought we would draw your attention to these:

The main City of Sanctuary website has a list of wide-ranging suggestions and you may wish to read this first: https://cityofsanctuary.org/2022/03/02/how-you-can-support-the-people-of-ukraine/

The Red Cross are collecting donations for their humanitarian work in the country           https://www.redcross.org.uk/

The UNHCR (UN refugee agency), Unicef and Save the Children are also collecting donations.

The Polish Integration Support Centre are collecting specific items and have a collection point in Chester: they are looking for

  • foil survival blankets
  • toys, crayons
  • nappies and children clothes
  • sanitary towels
  • towels
  • first aid kits and bandages
  • sleeping bags
  • metal cups
  • thermal clothing
  • hair brushes, shampoo, toothbrushes

Presently they are collecting until 3/3/22 and the Chester collection site is at:  St Francis Church, Grosvenor Street, Chester, CH1 2BN

Monday – Friday, 10am-2pm

Telephone contact: 07858 457 164

Alternatively there is a later collection, 5-7pm Monday to Friday at 31 Tudor Avenue, CH6 5LZ (tel 07784414751) and in conjunction with PISC, SHARE are also collecting – deadline 3/3/22 https://shareaid.co.uk

The PISC are also collecting monetary donations. Often money donations, if you can give them, are the quickest way of providing help as they can be used immediately and adapted to the needs at the time.
