An exhibition at Chester Cathedral shows work by Artist in Residence Kirushan Sivagnanam.
This excellent exhibition, showing from the 20th February until Saturday 7th March 2026, looks at displacement, adaptation, transformation and questions of identity.
Kirushan examines the journey from past suffering, memories and identity; through absence, uncertainty and survival; and onto a gradual adaptation to a new way of being. What is left from the past, what is one is forced to assimilate and what is the influence of colonial powers? How does identity shift under these pressures?
The art works are made from fabric or paper – newsprint, magazines – materials influencing how we think via their language, images and content.
The exhibition offers a chance to examine the current narrative on migration, to look at the personal experience compared to the projected story.
The Exhibition is only on for two weeks – go now!
