The Community Superpower Project

Inspired by the theme of Refugee Week 2025 (June 16th -22nd) – “Community as a Superpower” – Chester City of Sanctuary Group invite you, as members of our local community, to show support for sanctuary seekers by taking photographs individually or in groups, holding our poster:

We then invite you to post to your own social media sites (#mythbusters) – we’d love it if you could tag our social media sites – instagram and Facebook. Also, or alternatively, you can send the photo to us at [email protected] and we will post on our instagram and/or Facebook pages. The posters will be found at our stall in Storyhouse during Refugee Week or you may well find you are asked if you’d like to participate before then at various groups and organisations around the city.

The reverse of the supplied posters includes “myth busting” information about sanctuary seeking:

We are inviting participation in this act of solidarity with organisations well in advance of Refugee Week so that the photographs can be used in a local campaign during the actual week to give a voice to those who are often silenced by others.

Here is Inderjit Bhogal, co-founder of the City of Sanctuary, holding the poster for the first photo:

Any group or organisation who would like a copy of the poster for display and to participate in this simple act of local solidarity can contact [email protected]. Enough posters have been produced for one thousand local people to be involved. Of course photographs can be taken at your convenience and at a location of your choosing. Feel free to be creative! The posters are free and can be kept to be displayed before, during or after Refugee Week.
