We have had many questions asking how individuals can help Ukrainian refugees in the current crisis. As an update to our previous post we hope you may find this useful:
Ways we can support refugees from Ukraine
- We can support agencies who provide relief to refugees – agencies such as
the Red Cross https://donate.redcross.org.uk/appeal/ukraine-crisis-appeal
the DEC, which is the Disaster Emergency Committee made up of 15 leading UK charities including the Red Cross https://www.dec.org.uk/appeal/ukraine-humanitarian-appeal
As time moves on, requests change although need remains. Now those wishing to donate are advised to give monetary donations rather than clothes and items as these can be mobilised quickly, used in the hosting countries to support the economy and avoid the huge logistic problems of sorting, sending and distributing items.
- . The following webinar from the City of Sanctuary outlines many ways in which you can help in the current situation and other situations regarding those seeking sanctuary.

- Locally CHAWREC have a Justgiving campaign to raise money for small grants to Ukrainian families https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/UkrainiansInCheshire
- We can inform ourselves regarding the refugee situation – good sources of information include:
UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees) https://www.unhcr.org/uk/
Refugee Council website https://www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/
also our Chester City of Sanctuary website https://chester.cityofsanctuary.org/
- We can talk to friends, family and colleagues to help shape a more positive narrative around all refugees, recognising first and foremost that they are people just like you and I.
- We can encourage our government to respond positively to the ongoing refugee crisis. We can do this by writing a letter or signing a petition or joining a campaign.
Campaigns can be found on our ‘Campaigns’ page.
